Saudi Arabia becomes a member of the Apostille Convention
Apostille for Saudi Arabia?
On 8 April 2022, Saudi Arabia became the latest country to become a member of the Apostille Convention. From 7 December 2022, Saudi Arabia will accept documents stamped with an apostille from other member countries.
The previous process of having documents legalised no longer applies. Legalisation involved authenticating documents with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) and then legalised by the Embassy of Saudi Arabia (in Canberra or through their agents).
With the apostille, documents from Australia intended to be used in Saudi Arabia do not require legalisation.
